Hult Prize for Social Good | Apply Today!

For the first time ever, ECU will be hosting a university wide pitch competition for the Hult Prize! The Hult is the world’s largest student competition and start-up platform for social good. Hult Prize identifies and launches disruptive and catalytic social ventures that aim to solve the planet’s most pressing challenges. Student teams compete around the world for a chance to secure 1 million dollars in start-up funding to launch a sustainable social venture.

The 2017 Hult Prize will focus on reducing the human cost of involuntary migration and developing solutions to restore the rights and dignity of those who are displaced– a challenge selected by Hult Prize as a global crisis in need of urgent attention and innovative solutions. Registered teams from ECU will present a 5 minute pitch on their proposed solution to this challenge on December 1, 2016 at the Innovation Design Lab.

The winning team from the Hult Prize@ East Carolina University event will be fast-tracked to compete at one of the five Hult Prize regional finals events around the world, bypassing the general application which annually receives over 20,000 applicants from more than 350 colleges and universities in over 150 countries! Through a grant from NBCUniversal, Hult Prize@ ECU promises the winning team up to $3,000 for travel/lodging to regional finals.

Regional finals will take place in either Boston or San Francisco in early March. Remember, our university must have 10 teams registered in order for the winning team to advance to regional finals, so be sure to encourage your friends to apply! The deadline to register is 11:59 PM Wednesday, November 16. To register, you only need a team of 3-4 ECU students, one of which can be an alumni.
