Potential Changes in Eligibility for Student Health Insurance
The Graduate School is seeking feedback from students, faculty & administrative associates who work closely with graduate students on the topic of student health insurance. Send comments or concerts to Dr. Kathy Cox, Associate Dean of the Graduate School. (coxka@ecu.edu)
Currently, a student has to be enrolled in 6 credits of campus-based courses in order to be eligible to purchase the health insurance ECU offers to students. If a student is taking fewer than 6 credits of campus courses, there is no ECU option or purchase; the student must seek out private health insurance on the market (if a parent or spouse has no available option, for example).
This Fall, the Graduate School will be in conversations with the insurance provider to change the eligibility requirements. The Graduate School has had complaints of students taking fewer than 6 credits that they would like the option to purchase it. The Graduate School is considering lowering the eligibility to 3 credits or 1 credit. Their goal is to set an eligibility requirement that includes as many as possible, but does create a hardship for anyone.
If you have any feedback, the Graduate School would love to hear it! Please send comments or concerts to Dr. Kathy Cox, Associate Dean of the Graduate School. (coxka@ecu.edu)
