East Carolina University students meeting specific eligibility criteria are required to have health insurance. ECU offers an affordable Student Health Insurance Plan for students who need coverage or for those desiring to change insurance plans. For more information about the Student Health Insurance Plan, eligibility requirements, how to enroll or, if you already have existing coverage, how to waive out of the plan, visit the Student Health Insurance page.

Eligibility criteria

Undergraduate and Graduate students must be:

• in degree seeking programs AND
• enrolled in 6 or more credit hours on campus AND
• pay the health fee with tuition

All students meeting eligibility criteria will be automatically billed for SHIP. It is the student’s responsibility to submit their current insurance information to waive out of SHIP and have the charge credited back to their tuition bill.
