Research Assistantship Opportunity – Office of Regional Economic Development and Millennial Campus
The Office of Regional Economic Development and Millennial Campus is seeking a research assistant for the Spring 2019 semester. The research assistantship position is contracted for up to 20 hours per week. The contract will last through the end of the semester with the possibility to extend through the Spring 2019 semester, contingent upon job performance and availability.
Position Description:
Innovation and Entrepreneurial Ecosystem Analysis and Research: RA’s will take part in data collection, analysis and opportunity mapping of regional industry/military technology/manufacturing clusters, located primarily within the region east of I-95, a largely rural and underserved region. On behalf of ECU’s Office of Regional Economic Development and Millennial Campus (ORED&MC), the RA’s will work as a team to identify common innovation challenges within these clusters and inform/support development of potential solutions, as well as support academic, industry and governmental collaborations to implement solutions. Research and analysis tasking will be determined in coordination with ECU’s US EDA i6 Regional Innovation Strategies grant. Additionally, students will serve as research assistant to faculty mentors in the Honor College seminars HNRS 2000 and 3000. In all activities, students will be charged with identifying potential partners, tenants and value-adding investments for ECU’s Millennial Campus.
Responsibilities of this position may include, but are not limited to:
- Conduct data collection, analysis and mapping of regional industry/military technology/manufacturing clusters;
- Identify common innovation challenges within targeted clusters and inform/support development of potential solutions;
- Support academic, industry and governmental collaborations in achieving ORED&MC’s economic development and Millennial Campus goals;
- Serve as research assistants to faculty mentors in the Honor College seminars HNRS 2000 and 3000;
- Assist with identifying potential partners, tenants and value-adding investments for ECU’s Millennial Campus.
Expected Outcomes/Evaluation Metrics:
- Significant contribution to team products including research outputs, analyses, methodologies and documented research artifacts.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively in a multidisciplinary research environment.
- Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency in research and analysis best practices and methods.
Minimum qualifications:
- Must be enrolled in an ECU graduate degree seeking program for the Spring 2019 semester.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail is required.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact and manage others.
- Effective written and oral communication.
- This position requires the GA to frequently work independently.
- Experience with MS Office applications.
