The Office of Student Development is committed to the success and graduation of our student-athletes by providing extensive services and diverse experiences in order to promote the development of academic achievement, leadership, and personal growth. We are seeking a graduate assistant for the Spring 2019 semester, to help us attain these goals by assisting in providing academic support services. The graduate assistantship position is contracted for 20 hours per week, with both daytime and evening work expected. The contract will last through the end of the semester with the possibility to extend through the Fall 2019 semester, contingent upon job performance and availability. The Office of Student Development is housed on the Athletic Complex.
Position description:
This position assists members of the Office of Student Development in providing academic support services to students, with a focus on freshmen transitioning to college and other students in need of additional skill development. An emphasis will be placed upon the freshmen football study hall program.
Responsibilities of this position include:
- Assists in monitoring freshmen football study hall in conjunction with the football academic coordinators.
- Focuses on freshman transition by providing seminars and programming related to study skills development, learning strategies, goal setting, etc.
- Conducts weekly academic meetings with assigned at risk student-athletes.
- Assists in compiling academic reports/data for coordinators and coaches.
- Helps plan programming to promote academic success and improve retention of all student-athletes.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum qualifications:
- Must be enrolled in an ECU graduate degree seeking program for the Fall 2018 semester.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail is required.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact and manage others.
- Effective written and oral communication.
- This position requires the GA to frequently work independently.
- Experience with MS Office applications, particularly Excel, is preferential.
- Graduate students with a background or interest in education, special education, psychology, school psychology, counseling, reading, or a related field are well suited for this position
