Distracted Driving Awareness Week | Jan 22-24

A distracted driving simulator will be in the Bate Building Jan. 22-24 in order to increase awareness about distracted driving. On Jan. 23, media will be invited to try the simulator and speak to a North Carolina family who has been impacted by distracted driving.

Representatives from ECU’s Risk Management and Insurance program, the Independent Insurance Agents of North Carolina, law enforcement, victims’ families and State Auto Insurance, will be available to answer questions regarding distracted driving and demonstrate the effects of distracted driving.

“ECU is proud to be on the forefront of distracted driving awareness in North Carolina,” said Dr. Brenda Wells, director of ECU’s Risk Management Program, and Robert F. Bird Distinguished Professor of Risk and Insurance. “If our efforts prevent even one distracted driving tragedy, we’ll be really pleased.  Research conducted by our own Dr. Brad Karl shows that hand-held cell phone bans have a significant impact on reducing losses in auto insurance.”
