Opportunity to Serve on Prestigious Student Board

For the past six years, the Students’ Treasure Chest has been the primary student-led philanthropy organization with support from University Advancement, Student Affairs Development, and the Dean of Students Office. Its primary purpose is to foster a spirit of service and philanthropy within the student body and encourage students to become life-long donors to East Carolina University, while also helping to address emergency and opportunity needs for students on campus. The organization has successfully hosted numerous dinners and fundraisers, dances and dine-out nights, but is looking for new energy and input from the broader student body as we continue to grow and the number of applications for financial support increase.

Requests for awards come from students of varying backgrounds, and the advisors would like to have a more diverse student group to represent the needs and interests of all ECU students. This as also an opportunity for students who are looking for leadership roles and appreciate the importance of the ECU motto, “Servire”—to serve and give back to their fellow Pirates.

Graduate students who are looking to take a more active role on campus should be willing to commit to two meetings per month to review award applications, plan fundraisers and enjoy social and service activities on campus. Under the advisement of Julie Poorman (Financial Aid), Melonie Bryan (Scholarships), and Lauren Thorn (Dean of Students), students also frequently work with University Advancement, Student Affairs Development Office, and other departments that support the organization’s mission.

More information and organization updates can be found here. Please email gradbus@ecu.edu your name, Banner ID, and brief statement as to why you would like to serve on this board.
