Student Vet Services is Hosting 2 Events
ECU Student Veteran Services (SVS) hosting these 2 upcoming events:
Film Screening – SVS, in partnership with the ECU Registrar’s Office, will have a special film screening of the movie Megan Leavey on August 30th at 5pm in the Main Campus Student Center’s Black Box Theater. The film is based on the true life story of young marine corporal Megan Leavey. played by Kate Mara, whose unique discipline and bond with her military combat dog saved many lives during their deployment in Iraq. During her tour, she is assigned to clean up the K9 unit after a disciplinary hearing and Leavey identifies with a particularly aggressive dog named Rex. Megan is given the chance to train him and over the course of their service, Megan and Rex completed more than 100 missions until an IED explosion injures them, putting their fate in jeopardy. The film portrays the struggle of transition in an engaging and realistic manner as Megan struggles to find her place in society again. This film is free and open to the campus community with hopes of raising awareness of veterans issues and their struggles with transition.
Megan Leavey Speaks at ECU – The real life Megan Leavey, featured in the film, will speak at ECU on September 5th from 6-8pm in the Main Campus Student Center in Ballroom A. The Purple Heart recipient will share more about her personal experience during her time of service as well as answer questions from those in attendance. Megan Leavey’s speaking appearance is also free and open to the campus community.
