GAOpp: ENGAGEMENT SCHOLARSHIP CONSORTIUM (10 hours)

ENGAGEMENT SCHOLARSHIP CONSORTIUM DESCRIPTION: ECU is a member institution of the Engagement Scholarship Consortium (ESC). ESC is a non-profit educational organization composed of more than 40 higher education member institutions. The goal of the ESC is to work collaboratively to build strong university-community partnerships anchored in the rigor of scholarship and designed to help build community capacity. The Engagement Scholarship Consortium (ESC) invites higher education institutions to join it in the effort to bring the highest quality scholarship to community engagement, to build evidence-based university-community partnerships across all disciplines, and to demonstrate through actions, the value of higher education for the re-invention of society in the 21st century.

 

The ECU Assistant Vice Chancellor for Economic and Community Engagement (AVC) serves on the ESC Executive Committee as the ESC Membership Committee Chairperson. In this capacity, the AVC supports ESC membership activities through committee meetings, new member recruitment initiatives, member institution programming, and annual member reports.

 

POSITION SUMMARY: The primary role of the graduate assistant position is to support the ESC Membership Committee through research, data analysis, evaluation projects, marketing, reporting, and other duties as necessary to assist with membership growth, retention, and service.

 

LOCATION OF RESEARCH AND SUPERVISOR INFORMATION: This internship will be located at the Greenville Center, 2200 S. Charles Blvd, and will report to Dr. Sharon Paynter, Assistant Vice Chancellor for Economic and Community Engagement (paynters@ecu.edu).

 

QUALIFICATIONS & APPLICATION PROCESS: The successful student candidate will:

  • Be enrolled as a graduate student at ECU;
  • Have earned a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher;
  • Demonstrate interest in economic or community engagement;
  • Have analytical skills and experience with research or evaluation projects;
  • Demonstrate the ability to manage multiple projects; and,
  • Have strong verbal and written communication skills.

 

EXPECTATIONS:

  • Work as a member of a team
  • Complete all tasks assigned by supervisor.

 

SPECIFIC TASKS: The GA is required to provide support as follows:

  • Research including literature review as well as assembly of background material on various topics relevant to ESC member institutions;
  • Create evaluation tools including surveys;
  • Manage and analyze data;
  • Maintain databases;
  • Meet with ESC representatives including the Membership Committee;
  • Develop and implement project plans; and,
  • Other tasks as assigned.

 

START AND END DATE: Assistantship will run Sept 2, 2019, to December 13, 2019, and continues from January 6 to April 30, 2020. The GA will be expected to share his or her availability with the supervisor and communicate effectively if time off is needed.

 

REIMBURSEMENT: 10 hours/ week $2,250 per semester
