Sage Publishing is providing free access to etextbooks and instructional resources. From Sage: “Beginning March 16 through May 25, 2020, access to an expansive catalog of eTextbooks will be available for free to students at semester-calendar institutions who have been impacted by recent campus closures. Students simply log in to the VitalSource Bookshelf app using their school email address and can then view course materials from participating publishers via VitalSource’s Explore capabilities within Bookshelf.” For instructors, “We’re providing you and your students free access to SAGE Vantage courseware that includes content from select textbooks and everything you need to run your course online. SAGE Vantage is a simple and easy-to-use digital platform that includes the full textbook with auto graded assignments.” For more information, see Sage’s Remote Teaching webpage.
VitalSource: Will provide free access to online textbooks from many different publishers from now through May 25, 2020. Publishers include APA, Cengage Learning, MacMillian Learning, Pearson Education, Sage, Wiley, and many more. See their press release for additional details.
Many classes use videos in a variety of formats. Three of our streaming media vendors – JoVE, Kanopy and Docuseek – have recently notified libraries about the following expanded access:
JoVE: ECU’s JoVE representative has opened up temporary access to JoVE’s Science Core Collection for use by ECU faculty, staff, and students from now through June 15. Authoritative video coverage of biology, chemistry, psychology, engineering, clinical practice, and other disciplines is provided alongside ECU’s subscribed video journals.
Kanopy: “With the support of select content partners like First Run Features, Samuel Goldwyn, Collective Eye Films, FilmRise, Films We Like, Media Education Foundation and NYX and more we’ve put together a collection of films that your campus can watch at no cost for the next 30 days. This list will continue to grow as we connect with our content partners in the coming days. We will send regular updates as necessary. DOWNLOAD THE FREE FILM GUIDE Starting Monday, March 16th, 2020 all selections in our catalog from The Great Courses will be available to use at no additional cost for the next 4 weeks. We encourage you to share this resource with your professors and faculty.”
Docuseek: “To help out with the challenge of maintaining instruction in cases where face-to-face instruction is cancelled, Docuseek has worked out an arrangement with its distribution partners, Bullfrog Films and Icarus Films, to make any of their titles on Docuseek available for educational streaming, at no charge, as long as the school has a legally-acquired copy of the title (any format), through June 30. If there are Docuseek titles from other distributors (e.g. Kartemquin, First Run, National Film Board) that you have a hard copy of and your faculty want to use in remote teaching during this period, let us know and we can see what we can do to make the film available.” To find out whether the library has Bullfrog or Icarus Films, you can follow this link for a pre-filled search, or contact library staff.
