Request to Pass/Fail Spring '21 Courses Before May 26

Graduate students will be able to opt in to Pass/Fail grading for a maximum of two courses (up to 6 hours) in the spring 2021 term. This means that, instead of keeping the letter grades you receive from your faculty, you can request a Pass grade for courses where a grade of C or above is earned or a Fail grade for courses where you earned a grade less than C.

Between May 11 and May 26, you can submit the request via PiratePort if you need to convert any grades. Pass/Fail course selections will be reviewed by an academic advisor after students request it. You will be contacted if there are concerns that your choices will have a negative impact on degree progression or graduation timeline. Essentially, this semester should not hurt you academically.

As a general rule, students with A’s should keep the letter grades. Students with B’s and C’s should take the Pass option. With a pass you still get credit for the course, it just doesn’t impact your GPA.

Students with F’s should take the Fail option. Fail grades won’t impact your GPA and result in no credit earned and cannot be used to fulfill any degree requirements. This can negatively impact financial aid eligibility and even delay student time to graduation.

All academic transcripts will have a note added to spring 2021 indicating the major disruption the coronavirus pandemic has caused to the academic experience.
