Special Topics Course on the Pharma Industry
The Chemistry department is offering a 1-hour Special Topics course in the Fall designed to introduce students to the Pharmaceutical Industry. The course is NOT about chemistry. Please see if the information below:
Hi Young Chemists, Biologists, and Engineers as well as Accountants, Statisticians, Project Managers, and Anyone Else that might be interested in the pharmaceutical industry.
- Pharma is booming in NC, the pay is very nice, and the companies have literally asked ECU to help prepare you for a variety of pharmaceutical industry careers. This means every role it takes to make a pharma company operate. It’s a good time to be entering the pharma workforce!!!
- We are offering a 1-credit hour special topics course this Fall (CHEM 5525, Pharmaceutical Industry Lecture) that is just the lecture portion of the Pharmaceutical Industry Skills Laboratory (CHEM 4522) without the lab. (attached example from full class Spring 2022, see p 3-6 for topics) The lecture material is available in-person and online for ease of access. If you prefer to attend the in-person lectures they will be on Wednesdays from 1-1:50 pm.
- Don’t be intimidated by the prefix CHEM. This lecture only course is not about chemistry; it is an introduction to important general topics in the pharma industry. There are no prerequisites and it is open to anyone. It’s also a relatively easy course.
- Most of the lectures are led by speakers from Mayne Pharma and Thermo Fisher Scientific here in Greenville. Speakers from Novo Nordisk in Clayton as well. In addition to the good information, it is a great opportunity to meet and talk to real working pharmaceutical professionals that want to help you find your fit in the pharma industry. [They want to hire you!!]
- The pharmaceutical industry prospective is also useful for students with plans for pharmacy, dental, and medical school.
- It is also useful for those of you that want to take the full class with lab, CHEM 4522, but can’t fit it into your schedule before graduation. You will still be a preferred candidate vs a student that does not have the pharma prospective.
Its CRN 85917 and 85918 for face-to-face and online versions, respectively. Note: It says lecture is both Monday and Wednesday but it’s just Wednesday for non-lab people and you can see it online anyway.
