Student Employment Opportunity in Global Academic Initiatives

Global Academic Initiatives, a unit within the Office of Global Affairs, is seeking a graduate assistant to aid in our work supporting and promoting virtual exchange activities at ECU and with our network of partner institutions around the world. Virtual exchange is a teaching modality that leverages technology to promote cross-cultural skill building through courses and other activities that are conducted in collaboration with international partner institutions. The Office of Global Academic Initiatives both supports and develops these types of activities. We also manage our network of approximately 50 partner institutions around the world and provide professional development opportunities for instructors and staff both at ECU and throughout our partnership networks. Responsibilities of this position include:

  • Providing support for virtual exchange courses being offered at ECU including monitoring and providing technical support for global classrooms.
  • Aiding in the development of resources for use by instructors and students in virtual exchange courses.
  • Aiding in research on virtual exchange and other international education initiatives.
  • Providing support for various GAI programs such as but not limited to:
  • WorldWise, our virtual exchange student organization.
  • The Global Issues Conference, an online student research conference.
  • GPEWorld, a StoryMap application that highlights the countries where our partner institutions are located.

The ideal candidate will be somewhat tech savvy (we will train on the specific technologies used); have experience and/or interest in engaging with people from other cultures; be self-motivated and reliable; and have good problem solving and communication skills.
