Welcome to the COB!

Read the Getting Started booklet

Please click here for our Getting Started booklet with important information you need know as you begin your program.  It is important that you review this document in its entirety, as it will help answer many of the questions we are sure you have.  There are instructions for accessing the University’s electronic systems, registering for classes, and also policies and procedures of the College.  It includes helpful hints on beginning your first class in the program.

Complete Pirates Aboard (Orientation)

All COB graduate students are required to complete the self-paced Pirates Aboard orientation course prior to starting any coursework. To help better prepare you for your first semester in graduate school, the Pirates Aboard orientation course gives you an introduction to the program. The class is fully online, and is beneficial regardless if you intend to take online or face-to-face classes. The class covers information such as:

  • Technology including Blackboard and Saba Meeting
  • Case analysis and writing skills
  • Proctor search and selection

You have been added to the course in Blackboard and it will appear on your Blackboard home page. To login to Bb, click on the little Bb icon in the upper right quadrant of the ECU home page (www.ecu.edu) or go to https://blackboard.ecu.edu/.  Login using your Pirate ID and Password.

We will be calling you soon to Schedule an Advising Appointment

In preparation for the upcoming Spring registration window, we would like to check in with you regarding your plans and program progress.

  • Starting on Monday, September 25, we will begin contacting all students via telephone.
  • We will be calling the number we have on file for you, listed in Banner.
  • We will be attempting to leave voicemails for all students who do not answer their phone; however, many students do not have their voicemail set up or the mailbox is full.

We are happy to discuss your course schedule or answer any questions you have after reviewing the Getting Started booklet.  Please call 252-328-6970 or toll free 866-592-0835 to make an appointment with your designated advisor.  Appointments may be held in-person or on the phone.  Anyone answering the phone may make the appointment, as our calendars share electronically.

Register for Classes

You can find our current, future, and past schedules here.  Previous semesters’ schedules can be used to help you plan for future semesters.  Instructions for how to register for classes can be found here. Note that Spring course offerings will be available after October 9.

Additional Resources and Support from the Graduate School

All new graduate students are enrolled in the Graduate School Orientation for New Students course in Blackboard (ECU’s course management software). College of Business graduate students  DO NOT have to complete the Graduate School Orientation; all this information an more is covered in the Pre-Term. However, you are welcome to review the Orientation materials and attend any events the Graduate School hosts for new students. More info can be found here: http://www.ecu.edu/cs-acad/gradschool/Graduate-Student-Orientation.cfm

Who will be getting a phone call?

While an advising appointment is not required, we want to make sure that everyone has an opportunity to speak with their advisor prior to the registration period opening.

  • During this call, MBA and Certificate students will be assisted with scheduling an appointment with your advisor to discuss any registration questions or other program related items.
  • MSA’s and MS-ST’s will be called, but should email their advisor if they have registration questions.
  • If you are planning to graduate in December, the person calling will be able to verify that the proper paperwork has been filed and answer any questions about commencement. Please do not be alarmed; we are just checking in.

What is the timeline?

If you would like an advising appointment, it is imperative that you schedule an advising appointment early, as our calendars tend to be full during the last half of October.

  • Appointments will be scheduled beginning the week of October 2.
  • Keep in mind that registration opens at 1:00pm on Friday, November 3.
  • If you do not receive a phone call by October 9, please call the office. Either the number (if we had one) on file was incorrect or the message we left was not delivered to you.

If you have any questions or concerns sooner than that, please do not hesitate to contact our office.
