Workshops on Mindfulness & Meditation 

http://www.nzsa2017.com/workshops/The workshop, consisting of four 75-minute classes, is designed to help students learn mindfulness through the practice of specific skills that calm and focus the mind; and through the practice of meditation.  It is designed to help students who are feeling pressured and stressed, or who are just interested in learning a new skill that can enrich their lives.

This workshop is supported by the Center for Counseling and Student Development and the PASS Clinic in the Psychology Department.  It is being offered one time during the fall semester on ECU’s east campus.

Rationale for Koru: College students today are experiencing higher levels of stress than previous generations. They experience numerous and varied demands or stressors while they are still in the process of developing skills and acquiring resources to enable them to meet those demands. Many students are not using effective means of coping with the stress they are confronted with. The stress they experience makes college students vulnerable to psychological and physical health problems as well as academic difficulties. Thus, there is a need for effective stress management programs in this population. Koru is a stress management program tailored to college students and has been associated with significant reductions in perceived stress and sleep difficulties, as well as increased self-compassion and mindfulness.
