OED seeks a GA for Spring

The Office for Equity and Diversity (OED) is seeking a graduate assistant for the Spring 2019 semester.

OED provides leadership in the university’s efforts to foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for all.

OED promotes a diverse, respectful and inclusive environment for the university community through educational programming, training and seminars. The Office promotes equity in university-wide educational opportunities, programming and employment in order to sustain a diverse and inclusive learning, living and working environment.

The scope of the Office for Equity and Diversity encompasses institutional equity and diversity functions involving education, intervention, compliance, consulting, programming, outreach and assessment. Institutional practices, in support of the principles of diversity and equity, are monitored in this office. Our goal is that the guiding principles of equity and diversity are applied and assessed institutionally pertaining to administration, academics, budgets and strategy.

Diversity and Inclusion (D and I) Graduate Assistant : Description

Under the supervision and guidance of the Diversity and Inclusion Program Manager, this position will provide an opportunity to enhance the candidate’s knowledge, skills and abilities around the development, deployment and maintenance of a comprehensive diversity and inclusion program in higher education.

 

Job Responsibilities:

The primary function of the D and I Graduate Assistant is to help plan, organize, and implement a comprehensive diversity and inclusion program. Example duties include — but are not limited to:

 

  1. Promote student involvement in diversity and inclusion programs and initiatives across campus.
  2. Assist in planning and implementing events for employee resource groups including the American Indian Faculty and Staff Group; Chinese Association of ECU Faculty, Staff and Friends; Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Ally Faculty and Staff Group; Organization of African American Faculty and the Organization of African American Staff.
  1.   Assist in the research, development, planning, implementation, marketing, and evaluation of the programming of events as it relates to all aspects of diversity and inclusion.
  1. Assist with maintaining records and organizational plans utilized for education, training, programming, and initiatives.
  2. Asist with coordination, set-up and coverage of programs and initiatives.
  3. Assist with coverage of the Office for Equity and Diversity main office.
  4. Assist with communication-related materials and resources.
  5. Perform other duties as assigned.

 

The ideal candidate will have the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines. The ideal candidate must be professional, personable, have excellent written and oral communication skills, and strong organizational skills.
