Assistant to the Tutor Coordinator

 

The Office of Student Development is committed to the success and graduation of our student-athletes by providing extensive services and diverse experiences in order to promote the development of academic achievement, leadership, and personal growth. We are seeking a graduate assistant for the Spring 2019 semester, to help us attain these goals by assisting with oversight of the tutoring program. The graduate assistantship position is contracted for 20 hours per week, with both daytime and evening work expected. The contract will last through the end of the semester with the possibility to extend through the Fall 2019 semester, contingent upon job performance and availability. The Office of Student Development is housed on the Athletic Complex.

 

Position description:

 

This position assists the Tutor Coordinator in the training and monitoring of the Office of Student Development’s tutor/mentor staff.

 

Responsibilities of this position include:

 

  • Assists with the recruitment, selection, and training of the tutor/mentor staff.
  • Assists in monitoring the effectiveness of the athletic tutor/mentor staff.
  • Assists in development and enhancement of training materials for the tutor/mentor staff.
  • Coordinates and implements in-service training sessions for the tutor/mentor staff.
  • Reviews reports submitted by the tutor/mentor staff daily.
  • Conducts formal and informal observations of the tutor/mentor staff during sessions with student-athletes as a component of the academic integrity monitoring process and quality assurance purposes.
  • Provides follow-up with student-athletes and the tutor/mentor staff regarding sessions and offers feedback as needed to enhance productivity, effectiveness and strengthen the learning process.
  • Circulates in athletic study halls to monitor tutor/mentor and study hall monitor performance and compliance with program policies, including those related to academic integrity and the university honor code.
  • Maintains regular and thorough communication with the tutor coordinator related to any observations from duties listed above.
  • Communicates with academic coordinators as needed in order to ensure adequate tutor/mentor support services are being provided to student-athletes.
  • Assists in program marketing, promotion and event planning.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum qualifications:

  • Must be enrolled in an ECU graduate degree seeking program for the Fall 2018 semester.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail is required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact and manage others.
  • Effective written and oral communication.
  • This position requires the GA to frequently work independently.
  • Experience with MS Office applications, particularly Excel, is preferential.
  • Graduate students with a background or interest in management, public administration, human resources, or a related field are well suited for this position
