GAOpp: Office of Community Engagement

OCER DESCRIPTION: The Office of Community Engagement and Research (OCER) connects East Carolina University with the larger community to create ways of understanding complex issues through partnership, outreach, and engaged scholarship. The OCER houses an assortment of programs that foster service and engagement to students, faculty, staff and community partners including the Engagement and Outreach Scholars Academy, Horizon Living and Learning Community, RISE29, and SECU Public Fellows Internship Program.

 

POSITION SUMMARY: The primary role of this position is to conduct research, evaluate and assess projects, assist with event planning and management, and complete other projects as assigned.

 

LOCATION OF RESEARCH AND SUPERVISOR INFORMATION: This internship will be located at the Greenville Center, 2200 S. Charles Blvd, and will report to Dr. Sharon Paynter, Assistant Vice Chancellor for Economic and Community Engagement (paynters@ecu.edu).

 

QUALIFICATIONS & APPLICATION PROCESS: The successful student candidate will:

  • Be enrolled as a graduate student at ECU;
  • Possess a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0;
  • Demonstrate interest in economic or community engagement;
  • Have analytical skills and experience with research or evaluation projects;
  • Demonstrate the ability to manage multiple projects; and,
  • Have strong verbal and written communication skills.

 

EXPECTATIONS:

  • Work as a member of a team
  • Complete all tasks assigned by supervisor

 

SPECIFIC TASKS: The GA is required to provide supports as follows:

  • Research including literature review as well as assembly of background material on various topics relevant to programs offered through the OCER;
  • Create evaluation tools including surveys;
  • Manage and analyze data;
  • Maintain databases;
  • Develop and implement project plans; and,
  • Other tasks as assigned.

 

START AND END DATE: Assistantship will run Sept 2, 2019, to December 13, 2019, and continues from January 6 to April 30, 2020. The GA will be expected to share his or her availability with the supervisor and communicate effectively if time off is needed.

 

REIMBURSEMENT: 20 hours/ week $4500 per semester
