GAOpp: RISE29 - Connecting Small Business Ideas with Regional Need (20 hours)

RISE29 DESCRIPTION: RISE29 is East Carolina University’s new microenterprise program that connects small business ideas with regional community need. Student teams will use data to develop and launch microenterprises, strengthen existing businesses with long-term continuity plans, and commercialize new technology that enhances our eastern 29 counties.

 

POSITION SUMMARY: The primary role of this position is to support the mission of RISE29 through research, data collection and analysis, assisting with orientation and workshop materials, marketing and other duties as necessary to help grow RISE29 at ECU and across Beaufort, Hyde, Martin and Pitt counties.

 

LOCATION OF RESEARCH AND SUPERVISOR INFORMATION: This internship will be located at the Willis Building, 300 E First Street, and will report to James Carter, carterjame19@ecu.edu

 

QUALIFICATIONS & APPLICATION PROCESS:

  • Enrolled as a graduate student at ECU
  • Able to commit 20 hours as a graduate research assistant in the Fall and Spring Semester
  • Minimum of 3.0 cumulative GPA
  • Interest in community engagement
  • Communication and Leadership skill
  • Verbal and Writing skills

 

EXPECTATIONS:

  • Work as a member of a team
  • Complete all tasks assigned by supervisor.

 

SPECIFIC TASKS: The GA is required to provide supports as follows:

  • Research as requested,
  • Analyzing data,
  • Attendance at workshops,
  • Drafting of documents for recruitment and evaluation,
  • Managing evaluation data,
  • Maintaining and updating databases as needed,
  • Meeting with community partners and students as needed.

 

START AND END DATE: Assistantship will run Sept 2, 2019, to December 13, 2019, and continues from January 6 to April 30, 2020. The GA will be expected to share his or her availability with the supervisor and communicate effectively if time off is needed.

 

REIMBURSEMENT: 20 hours/ week $4500 per semester
