Environmental Health GA Opp

Mosquito insecticide resistance is a growing global issue that must be addressed to protect public health. Mosquito populations in North Carolina are being monitored for resistance to a variety of insecticide active ingredients found in formulated products used by environmental/public health programs for mosquito control. This knowledge will help inform practical mosquito control decisions made by programs across the state. Graduate students with interest in these topics are encouraged to apply for a 10-15 hours/week paid position in the Department of Health Education and Promotion (Environmental Health Program).

Position Details: This position will begin in March 2021 and continue through July 31, 2021, with the possibility of further extension.

Time Commitment: 10-15 hours/week

Duties: The student will assist with mosquito identification and mosquito colony maintenance. The student will also assist with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention bottle bioassays for assessment of insecticide resistance. Most duties are carried out in laboratory setting, but some field work for mosquito collections, and/or virtual work for data entry may be included, as necessary. Training will be provided.

Eligibility: Must be a graduate student. Individuals with a background in environmental health are preferred.
