RISE29 Program Overview 
The Rural Innovations Strengthening Eastern 29 (RISE29) program, funded by the Golden LEAF Foundation, is a rural economic development focused on creating or sustaining jobs in eastern North Carolina. Phase I of RISE29 is focused in a four-county region including Beaufort, Hyde, Martin, and Pitt counties. RISE29 connects small business ideas with regional community needs. Teams of student interns use data and industry best practices to strengthen existing businesses. Student entrepreneurs are also able to work with ECU faculty and staff to grow their own ideas into small businesses through the RISEUp Academy. Through its Entrepreneurship Passport (E-Passport) program, RISE29 provides professional development and other learning opportunities to ECU students. This comprehensive program is recognized as a national leader for its innovative approaches to connecting students with rural communities through entrepreneurship.
Position Summary 
The primary role of the RISE29 Graduate Assistant is to support RISE29 through student activities, including working with the RISE29 program manager to provide intern onboarding and coaching. Further duties will include assisting with RISE29 program marketing, recruitment, E-Passport program administration, data collection and monitoring, and other duties necessary to grow RISE29.

PAY RATE

$15.00 Per hour

Start & End Dates 
The assistantship will run from May 17, 2021 to August 14, 2021 for up to 25 hours per week. Continuation beyond August 2021 will be considered based on job performance.
Internship Location & Supervisor Information
This internship will be located at the Willis Building, 300 E First Street, and will report to Derrick Welch, RISE29 Program Manager (welchmic20@ecu.edu).
COVID-19 restrictions may require work to be performed in a virtual setting.
Desired Knowledge, Skills, Abilities 
The successful student candidate will:
• Demonstrate interest in economic or community engagement;
• Have analytical skills and experience with research or evaluation projects;
• Display leadership ability and willingness to take initiative;
• Demonstrate the ability to manage multiple projects; and,
• Have strong verbal and written communication skills.
Majors Targeted
All graduate majors accepted but preference will be given to master’s students enrolled in Accounting, Business Administration, Communication, Economics, Political Science, or Public Administration.

The selected applicant for this opportunity must meet the following eligibility requirements by the internship start date:
• Be enrolled full-time as a graduate student at ECU;
• Have earned a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher;
• Not admitted by exception or on academic probation; and
• Have no more than 5 additional hours of campus-based employment outside of RISE29.
