When you study accounting, you learn the nuts and bolts of how a business operates. The BSBA in accounting provides a broad overview of significant issues in management accounting as well as a detailed examination of internal accounting issues affecting multiple entity types. The courses include an array of topics needed for an accounting manager working in a dynamic environment. The BSBA accounting degree prepares students for careers in corporate accounting, government accounting, and internal auditing.
For decades, the College of Business at East Carolina University has done an excellent job teaching students the technical material necessary for success in the business world. In today’s economy, though, that is no longer sufficient. As part of teaching the “whole student,” a revamped curriculum for undergraduate students now emphasizes leadership, professionalism, and communication skills. While not compromising our long history of teaching strong technical skills, the Leadership and Professional Development program teaches students how to “Think, Value, Communicate, Lead,” regardless of his or her job title or position. Through our unique Leadership and Professional Development program, each student gains valuable leadership skills, communication skills and professionalism. The bar is set high for students, with personalized support coming from a network of mentors, advisors, and coaches.

The Department of Finance provides support in the areas of managerial finance, banking, financial services, business law and real estate. Students develop applied and theoretical knowledge as the basis for successful financial management of both large and small organizations and in providing financial services to both individuals and financial institutions.
The department offers two concentrations: finance and risk management and insurance. Each concentration furnishes professional education in relevant methods of financial management, preparing students to enter fields where they apply financial concepts to help solve problems and find solutions.

Entrepreneurship - BSview full degree pageLooking at the data, the entrepreneurial route allows one to have a more immediate impact than joining the corporate world. In 2018, North Carolina data shows us that small businesses and start-ups accounted for 99.6% of the state's businesses and employed more than 1.6 million people in 2015. Small businesses also accounted for 50,881 net new jobs in the state. A closer look at the data shows that 60% of those new jobs were created by microbusinesses, which have 20 or fewer employees.
If you're interested in being an entrepreneur, you'll need to have the education and experiential knowledge if you want to launch your own business or follow an entrepreneurial career path after graduation. The Bachelor of Science in entrepreneurship degree will get you ready for both opportunities.
The Bachelor of Science in entrepreneurship program is campus-based and requires 120 hours of coursework. Students will take courses in topic areas such as entrepreneurial finance, sales and marketing, strategy, opportunity assessment, business planning, small and family business management, and new venture launch. The program will also include 18 hours for students to develop a specialty area of interest to help guide them through the business plan and new venture launch courses.

Interested in learning how to manage a successful restaurant, bar or club? Do you picture yourself running a five-star hotel or perhaps an out-of-the-way bed and breakfast?
East Carolina University's bachelor degree in hospitality management offers three concentration areas.
A focus on conventions and special events management allows students to explore the excitement of the hospitality industry. This major focuses on educating and training individuals to work in environments such as convention centers and private clubs or to run their own event planning business. Students learn the ropes of special event planning and coordinating through projects, faculty mentoring, and a required internship.
The concentration in food and beverage management will allow you to become a part of one of the largest industries in the country. Students focusing in food and beverage will learn the ins and outs of working in the food industry through hands-on experience in our culinary labs and a required internship. Graduates could work in restaurant management, contract food service, catering, fine dining, quick service or using their education and entrepreneurial spirit to open their own restaurant.
Hospitality management students who concentrate in lodging management are preparing themselves for a career that can provide international opportunities as well as local career options. Students will learn from industry-leading professionals to work in a lodging operation by taking courses that teach and train them to work with a team in a professional environment. Graduates of this program have found jobs in different operations such as local bed and breakfasts or large corporations like Marriott and Hyatt.
