Greenville, N.C. — East Carolina University senior Kooper Ashmore, a risk management and insurance major in the College of Business, has been recognized as the top Spencer scholar in the nation by the Spencer Educational Foundation, standing out among more than 600 applicants nationwide.

The Spencer Educational Foundation is the leading nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting education and career development in risk management and insurance. Each year, the foundation awards scholarships to outstanding students across the country who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership and a passion for advancing the insurance industry.

As part of this honor, Ashmore was invited to attend and speak at the foundation’s “Funding Their Future” gala in New York City before an audience of more than 550 people. The annual event brings together insurance leaders, executives and donors to celebrate the next generation of industry professionals. The gala raises millions each year to fund scholarships, internships and educational programs that help students pursue careers in risk management and insurance.

During the event, Ashmore shared his story about how Spencer’s support has influenced his education and career goals.

“The financial support from Spencer allows students like me to say yes to opportunities that help shape our future in this industry,” he said.

Ashmore is a two-time Spencer scholar, and his continued involvement reflects his commitment to paying that opportunity forward. He credits ECU’s risk management and insurance program and its supportive community for helping him grow academically and professionally.
