SHL Alumni Spotlight: Elizabeth Ackman

My name is Elizabeth Ackman, and I currently serve as the senior premium manager for Aramark at PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania — home to the Pittsburgh Penguins. Over the course of my career, I’ve held several key roles within the hospitality industry, including club manager, beverage manager, catering manager and suite coordinator.
Throughout my time in these positions, I’ve had the unique privilege of managing three Stanley Cup Finals — two of which resulted in victories — and yes, I proudly wear my Stanley Cup rings. My career has also afforded me the opportunity to travel to other Aramark accounts to assist with opening new facilities, as well as to work a wide variety of high-profile events, including NCAA basketball tournaments, large-scale catering galas and countless concerts and shows.
I graduated from the School of Hospitality Leadership in 2012 with a Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management. While my academic focus was initially on lodging, I discovered my passion and professional calling in the food and beverage sector. My career path began with Aramark on Campus as a student manager — an early experience that provided the real-world foundation for my future in premium hospitality.
As a proud member of Eta Sigma Delta, I have always valued academic excellence and professional development. Several core classes from SHL continue to shape my work today — particularly Principles of Food Preparation and Menu Planning, which are essential in my current role overseeing all premium menus from conception to execution. I work closely with departments including culinary, warehouse, suites, clubs and catering to deliver seamless, high-end experiences.
Additionally, coursework such as Cost Controls for Hospitality Operations and Financial Management has been instrumental in my ability to operate on a P&L model, ensuring costs are managed while maintaining exceptional quality. This balance is critical to our partnership with the Pittsburgh Penguins and to the overall success of our operations.
The education, mentorship and hands-on experience I received at SHL laid the groundwork for a fulfilling and dynamic career in hospitality leadership.
