The East Carolina University College of Business proudly announces the establishment of the Center for AI in Business, a new initiative dedicated to advancing workforce readiness and regional economic growth through the responsible and applied use of artificial intelligence and emerging technologies.

Led by Dr. John Drake, Professor of Management Information Systems and founding director of the Center, this new academic hub will serve as a bridge between ECU expertise and the needs of eastern North Carolina’s business community. The Center will help regional organizations harness technologies such as data analytics, robotics, augmented and virtual reality, and generative AI to improve performance, drive innovation, and prepare for the future of work.

“The Center for AI in Business creates a vital connection between our faculty, students, and regional partners around the most transformative technology shaping today’s economy,” said Dr. Drake.

Through a combination of student experiential learning projects, professional development workshops, and applied research, the Center provides practical solutions for organizations while equipping ECU students and professionals with hands-on experience applying AI in real business contexts.

The Center’s creation aligns closely with East Carolina University’s mission to serve as a national model for student success, public service, and regional transformation. By integrating applied research, education, and research, the Center positions the College of Business as a leader in helping eastern North Carolina businesses thrive in an AI-driven economy.

Faculty and industry leaders interested in collaborating with the Center for AI in Business are encouraged to contact Dr. John Drake at drakejo@ecu.edu.
