Students attend Council for Supply Chain Management Professionals international conference

Three attendees stand smiling in front of a large conference sponsor backdrop at the EDGE 2025 Supply Chain Conference. The backdrop reads “EXCHANGE AT EDGE” and “Thank you to our EDGE 2025 Sponsors,” featuring company logos including Penske, Breakthrough, and others. The two students wear dress shirts and slacks—one giving a thumbs-up—and the faculty member in the center wears an ECU polo with a conference badge. The setting is a brightly lit hotel lobby with a patterned carpet and other attendees in the background.

Dr. John Kros, the Vincent K. McMahon Distinguished Professor in the College of Business’ Department of Marketing and Supply Chain Management, recently attended EDGE, a supply chain conference and exhibition, along with students Avery Steffensen and Winston Smith.

Steffensen and Smith, both supply chain management majors, participated in the conference, which was hosted by the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP). They were selected from a large pool of supply chain management majors based on their GPAs, involvement in the College’s Institute for Supply Chain Management student chapter, and overall engagement with the supply chain program.

The students also attended a special event where companies conducted interviews. Both had the opportunity to meet with several high-profile organizations.

“The CSCMP conference provided an invaluable opportunity for me to learn, network and engage with industry professionals as I pursue a career in supply chain management,” Steffensen said.

“Overall, the conference was a great experience and an excellent opportunity to see all of the new and exciting products and systems being introduced and used in the supply chain industry,” Smith said.

Kros said Steffensen and Smith gained experience not available to most supply chain students.

“They were part of an outstanding conference that included topics on forecasting uncertainty, last-mile delivery service and how to adapt to the modern supply chain,” Kros said. “Avery and Winston also had excellent networking opportunities with individual supply chain professionals such as Mike Gamel of Mexpress Cargo Specialists and Raleigh Roundtable CSCMP officer Will Seel of FHI.”

Both students were supported through Kros’ Vincent K. McMahon Distinguished Professorship.
