ECU Association for Information Systems students visited SAS, a global data analytics company, during a trip to its Cary campus. The trip was made possible in part, thanks to Ecu alumnus Brady Terrents (Second row, first on left).

A world leader in data and artificial intelligence hosted more than a dozen College of Business students late last month. East Carolina University Association for Information Systems (AIS) students visited SAS headquarters in Cary on Oct. 24. The students took part in SAS’s Discovery Day, meeting with employees, learning about internship opportunities and participating in one-on-one resume reviews with SAS recruiters.

According to AIS president Madison Hruska, SAS’s culture really stood out to the ECU students. “We could tell they enjoyed what they were doing and who they were working with. And, I think, we all want to be a part of a culture like that,” Hruska said.

This trip was made possible through networking with ECU alumni who work at SAS – Brady Terrents ’98 and Linwood Debrew ’97. Hruska said she reached out to Terrents via LinkedIn after meeting him at the second annual ECU Technology Summit.

“I saw an opportunity to connect our students with this powerhouse in data analytics that’s right in our backyard,” Hruska said. “With internships becoming increasingly competitive, I wanted to give my peers a chance to begin building meaningful connections that could open doors for their careers in technology.”
