The 21st Century Leadership micro-credential program is a seven-course series focused on developing critical capabilities needed to grow an individual’s impact as a leader. It is designed to equip current and aspiring leaders with the understanding, skills, and tools to lead strategically. They will learn to build a team or organization that is goal-focused and vision-driven while creating an environment for people to thrive, grow, and contribute.

Sales Mastery
In this two-day workshop geared towards sales managers, participants will gain the skills to build and articulate a winning sales strategy by leveraging proven strategic frameworks, which are crucial for navigating the complex dynamics of the marketplace. Achieving sustainable sales success requires more than just individual wins — it hinges on a well-structured team, optimized processes, and strategic use of technology. This microcredential is a comprehensive series of workshops designed to equip participants with advanced negotiation strategies, decision-making frameworks, and influence techniques. Each workshop builds upon the previous one, providing a structured learning experience that progresses from foundational concepts to advanced applications.
Through interactive case studies, role-playing simulations, and applied exercises, participants will develop the skills to create and claim value, overcome cognitive biases, manage ethical dilemmas, and strategically navigate complex negotiations. Topics across the workshop series include conflict resolution and investigative negotiation techniques, influence strategies, deception detection, and negotiation under power imbalances, among others. Participants who complete the full series will earn a recognized microcredential demonstrating their proficiency in high-level negotiation strategies.

Building Public Trust via Public Protection: A Risk Management Series
Local governments play a critical role in disaster preparedness and community resilience — but many decision-makers face a knowledge gap when it comes to how insurance markets function and how policies respond to catastrophic events. This workshop is designed specifically for county and municipal executives, particularly those in eastern North Carolina and other high-risk regions, who are tasked with shaping disaster mitigation strategies.
Participants will gain a foundational understanding of key insurance and risk management concepts that directly affect their communities. The session draws on successful educational programming delivered to state-level policymakers and adapts it to the unique needs of local government leaders.

Entrepreneurship Through Acquisition (ETA)
The ETA program will prepare participants to purchase and operate an existing business. Participants will learn the steps and processes necessary during the preacquisition, acquisition, and post-acquisition stages. Participants will have the opportunity to engage with professional and knowledgeable experts, such as brokers, lawyers, loan officers, and ECU faculty to learn what businesses are available for purchase, how to evaluate the opportunity, how to purchase, and then how to operate the business.

Charting the Course: Navigating Nonprofit Leadership & Strategy
Hoist your sails toward success. This practical, action-oriented microcredential program is designed especially for small but mighty nonprofit organizations, equipping leaders with the skills and strategies to steer their mission with confidence, strengthen operations, and chart a path to lasting impact. Participants will learn how to turn vision into measurable outcomes, expand funding opportunities, and lead with clarity in an ever-changing environment.

Project Management Workshop: Fundamentals and Hands-On with Asana
This two-day workshop introduces essential Project Management concepts, including the Project Management Life Cycle, project planning, risk and resource management, and project management methodologies with an emphasis on agile. Participants will engage with free Project Management software (Asana) through hands-on activities, creating and managing sample projects. Discussion about how AI can assist, focusing on automation, predictive analytics, and insights. Participants will walk away with more confidence in using free PM software to manage current and new projects and demonstrate their ability to manage projects with confidence and strategic insight.

Change Management
The Change Management workshop equips professionals with the skills to effectively lead and navigate organizational change. It covers key principles, strategies, and tools to manage transitions, foster stakeholder engagement, and drive successful outcomes in dynamic environments.
