Hospitality honor society recognized

The School of Hospitality Leadership’s chapter of Eta Sigma Delta, the International Hospitality honor society, recently was recognized in the top three chapters of all global hospitality programs in the United States. Eta Sigma Delta is part of the International Council on Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Education.

“I believe this global recognition is illustrative of the quality and work ethic of the School of Hospitality Leadership (SHL) students and faculty,” said Dr. Bob O’Halloran, SHL director.

The SHL ECU chapter advisor is Dr. Cynthia Deale. Students are invited to join Eta Sigma Delta based on their academic performance. The organization invites industry professionals as speakers and participates in numerous community projects.

“Our students continually are engaged with stakeholders through academics, experiential learning and volunteerism,” said O’Halloran. “The SHL faculty provide the context and catalyst for student and industry success.”

Today, there are more than 90 active Eta Sigma Delta chapters throughout the world. The growth is a testament to the dedication of both students and professionals in hospitality and tourism to the pursuit of academic, professional and personal excellence.
