The Miller School of Entrepreneurship in the College of Business served as a gold sponsor for the recent United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship’s (USASBE) 2023 conference in Tallahassee, Florida on the campus of Florida State University, home to the only College of Entrepreneurship in the country. Four members and partners of the Miller School were in attendance, including COB Interim Dean Michael Harris, Miller School Acting Director Dr. Dennis Barber III, Dr. Emily Yeager (the Miller School’s Engaged Entrepreneurship Scholar), and Ms. Tristyn Daughtry (RISE29 Program Coordinator).

Just a few short years ago, there were very few, if any, presentations geared toward rural entrepreneurship. This year, just three years after Drs. Barber and Harris launched the rural entrepreneurship special interest group (SIG), there was enough rural content to fill a full day of sessions. In partnership with the Rural Research Fellows, another Miller School-supported initiative, Harris, Barber, Yeager and Daughtry highlighted the student impact of RISE29 to a room full of entrepreneurship educators. The announcement was also made for a second year of the Rural Entrepreneurship Education Certificate program to be held in Urbania, Italy with Barber serving as program lead. Harris also presented on the experiential design of the Miller School’s BS Entrepreneurship degree at the conference. Barber assumed a leadership role within USASBE by serving as the program awards co-chair, which is a two-year commitment.
