Job Description Executive Director
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Senior management position with primary accountability for the accomplishments and fiscal integrity of the entire organization. Works with the Board of Directors to determine the focus and direction of the bureau. Develops and recommends policies to the Board for approval, and is responsible for their implementation. Serves as spokesperson for and representative of the bureau.
- Manages all marketing. The Marketing Assistant identifies marketing opportunities with the objective of attracting business and maximizing room nights in local hotels. Promotes local events if they relate to travel and tourism. Promotes statewide special events, examples: U.S. Open, Cycle NC, Book ‘Em and Tourism Week. The Executive Director makes the final decision on marketing and signs all contracts.
- Budget functions. The Executive Director, The City’s Finance Director and the LVB Finance Officer prepare the suggested budget for the fiscal year. The budget is approved by the LTDA Board. After acceptance the budget is reviewed monthly. The Director is responsible for communicating budget information to the Board.
- Employs and supervises the administrative staff, positions which are established and authorized by the Board of Directors.
DIRECTS:
- All communications and public relations activities of the bureau. This includes media relations, and the distribution of bureau publications.
- In-house computer operations for bureau, with assistance from the Marketing Assistant/IT Specialist.
- Financial procedures established by the Finance Officer and ensures that accounts payable and all required reports are completed as required.
DUTIES:
- The preparation of scheduled and called board meetings, including notification to board members and newspapers, meeting minutes, financials and visitors bureau activities and statistics.
- The Coordination of and attendance at state meetings and trips to the Welcome Centers, the VisitNC Call Center and tradeshows. Requires travel and some overnight stays
- The Supervision of the staff and activities of the bureau to ensure that all visitor inquiries from mail, e-mail, and telephone are answered in a prompt and courteous manner.
- The coordination of the administrative functions of the bureau, including office management, purchasing and procurement of goods and services, maintenance, support services and personnel functions.
- The development, production, and distribution of the bureau’s marketing tools, including web site maintenance, advertising, public relations programs, publications and tradeshows.
- Writes grant applications as grants become available.
- The design and update of all promotional materials.

HEALTH Insurance and Retirement Benefit:
The LTDA does not offer an employer sponsored health insurance plan. The LTDA provides a combined reimbursement for health insurance costs and a retirement benefit for full-time employees who work at least 30 hours per week in the amount of 28% of their monthly salary. Employees determine the amount of their health insurance reimbursement based on their actual cost. The reimbursement is paid to them monthly to assist with health insurance coverage.
A Self-directed SEP (Employer) IRA plan has been established for all full time employees who work at least 30 hours/week. The percentage of the contribution is determined by the contribution for health insurance.
SICK LEAVE
Full time employees earn 1 sick day leave per month. Sick leave may accrue.
PAID TIME OFF
Paid time off is provided to the employee for vacation or to attend to personal matters – i.e. doctor’s appointments, death in the family, etc. Paid time off is earned as follows:
- 1 through 5 years of service – 10 days
- 6 through 10 years of service – 15
- 11 years of more – 20 days
