Beta Gamma Sigma Student Highlight: Rachel Richmon

“The College of Business gives students so many opportunities to make their dream a reality. The one thing I take most pride in is the number of intelligent professors who care the success of their students. My professors have always been there for me throughout my college career, in terms of dealing with stress, guidance, and achieving goals.”

Looking back to freshman year, Rachel Richmon says she never would have imagined ranking in the top of her class. Originally waitlisted at ECU, her number one choice, Richmon says she worked hard throughout her last year of high school. Her dedication to academics paid off in the end, and now she’s among the top 3% of her class.

She plans to graduate this spring with a dual concentration in Marketing and Operations & Supply Chain Management, and she recently earned the College of Business Alumni Scholarship, recognizing her academic excellence. Richmon has stayed active in Alpha Xi Delta Sorority, where she has held several leadership positions, the American Marketing Association, and the Student Pirate Club, as well as several honor societies. She is also very involved with fundraising and raising awareness for Autism Speaks and the Autism Society. This past summer, she also completed an internship with Richmond-based NewClients, a Top 100 company within the promotional merchandise industry.

She said, “College is an experience that you can get as much out of as you want. Join as many organizations and hold as many leadership positions as possible. Try to meet new people in every class, and make an effort to remain in contact with at least one person after the semester is over. Intern. Intern. Inter. Employers look at previous experience and skills that make you stand out from the typical business students.”

Richmon was recently inducted into Beta Gamma Sigma, the premier honor society recognizing business excellence. She said, “My Beta Gamma Sigma induction made me realize how much my academic achievements make me unique from all other students at East Carolina. Membership in this organization means a lot more than an item on my resume; the society’s global network will allow me to connect with the best individuals in businesses worldwide. Being inducted into Beta Gamma Sigma is one of my biggest achievements during my time at ECU.”
