Beta Gamma Sigma Student Highlight: Zeke Sigler

“The ECU College of Business gives you a small school feel with a big school network. It’s the best of both worlds. The college has opened up so many doors for me, giving me a vast network that I feel incredibly fortunate to have.”

A first-semester MSA student, Zeke Sigler understands the importance of getting involved. He completed his undergraduate degree in accounting last spring and continues to excel at ECU. He recently earned two scholarships for academic achievement, including the Ernst & Young Scholarship and PCAOB Scholarship.

Both on and off campus, he actively volunteers, too. Sigler has served as a College of Business Peer Mentor and as event coordinator for ECU’s Student Accounting Society chapter, plus he volunteered as a tutor at the Pirate Tutoring Center. He volunteered at the Humane Society of Eastern Carolina and United Hospice of Greenville during his undergraduate years. Most recently, he was asked to serve on the inaugural Student Outreach, Advancement & Recruitment (SOAR) Committee for the N.C. Association of CPAs.

This past summer, he gained valuable experience interning as an assurance agent in Ernst & Young’s Charlotte office. Additionally, he has worked as a campus ambassador for Becker CPA Review. After completing his MSA and the CPA exam, Sigler plans to work in public accounting.

“I encourage other students to get involved as much as possible,” he said. “Opportunities feed off of each other, so getting active in one thing will lead to other opportunities – creating connections that will come in handy when it comes to looking for interviews and job opportunities.”

In Fall 2013, Sigler was inducted into Beta Gamma Sigma, the premier honor society recognizing business excellence. “I was shocked when it was announced in class,” he said. “I was honored to be inducted into such a great organization. Professor Everett was the one to announce it, so I was happy it came from a professor I admire a lot.”
