HMGT 3200 Conducts Projects with CEED in Valencia, Spain
The global understanding section of the HMGT 3200 tourism class just completed four live links with a university in Valencia, Spain. Sixteen ECU students communicated via live video and chat links with the same number of students from the Centre especific d’ educacio distancia de la comunitat valenciana (CEED) in Spain about typical global understanding concepts of college life, family and cultural traditions, religion and the meaning for life, and stereotypes and prejudices and how each of these topics connects to tourism. In addition, the students are completing collaborative projects with their partners in Spain about various topics related to tourism and comparing and contrasting them in the two countries.
Project topics include the following: Basic services such as electricity, water, Internet, communication systems as they relate to tourism; Basic medical services and facilities as they relate to tourism; Safety and security as it relates to tourism; Tour companies, tour guide services and facilities, packaged tours, etc.; Marketing and promotion for tourism; The hospitality and service of the country; Accommodations—hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, inns, etc. for tourists in both countries; Food and beverage—compare and contrast these as they relate to tourism; Events—concerts, festivals, sporting events–as these relate to tourism; Accessibility—transportation to and within the country and ease of access related to tourism; Historical and cultural factors—for example how have history and culture influenced visitation and tourism to certain places, etc.; Attractions—both human-made (such as museums, monuments, festivals, etc.) and natural (such as scenery, mountains, coastlines, etc.); and Climate and weather considerations related to tourism.
