The 2016 Strategy Case Competition took place on Tuesday, April 19th. This year’s competition centered on a business case about Target’s Omni channel business options, and recommendations were presented by six teams selected during the semi-final competition across the sections of the capstone Management class. The judges were David Johnson, Diane Cappo, Shawn Langdon, Lindsay Andrews, and David Wyant, who awarded $4,000 in prizes generously provided by Target. Also in attendance were COB faculty Mike Harris, Joy Karriker, Josh Bendickson, Phil Davis, Thom Pittz, Melita Prati, and Laura Madden.

The first place team of Meaghan Doyle Cady May, Meredith Johnson, and Ashley Jennings were awarded $1,600 for their presentation, which featured a plan, “Grow with Target” campaign that involved several recommendations focused on the babies and kids’ department. MBA student Joe Kissinger stated that “The Target Case Presentations gave MBA students, like myself, a great opportunity to coach our younger students. It was a great chance to exemplify the leadership skills we’ve developed over our time at ECU.” The judges and faculty were particularly impressed by the creativity in each recommendation and by the work each team put into crafting their presentations. As Dr. Laura Madden commented, “It’s a fantastic opportunity to be able to showcase our students’ creativity in such an interactive and lively environment.” The judges were equally pleased; David Wyant, senior recruiter for the NC/VA region said that he and all the judges were “impressed with ECU’s COB professionals [and their] great ideas!”
