SHL Alumni Profile: Brandon Robertson
Brandon Robertson, the General Manager of the Ayden Golf and Country Club, graduated from the School of Hospitality Leadership in the fall of 2015. Brandon, age 23, was born and raised in Burlington, NC, moved to Virginia Beach, VA in high school, and then headed to ECU to major in musical theater; however, he soon decided that he did not want to pursue that field as a career.
Brandon changed his major to marketing, but said that he wanted to be active in his career and, after talking to advisors in the College of Business and the School of Hospitality Leadership, he switched his major to Hospitality Management. While attending ECU, Brandon worked as an intern with the Burlington (NC) Orioles baseball team, in the food and beverage area, and served as a student manager for Aramark, specifically at the Galley on College Hill. In his senior year, Brandon took the club management class and completed a group project for the Ayden Golf and Country Club. Through that project, he connected with the board members at the club and was hired part-time by the club and then interviewed and attained the job of club manager before he graduated.
Brandon says that his educational opportunities at ECU clearly helped him to land his current managerial position, remarking that the numerous certifications he earned as a student, including the ServSafe, Cvent, and Certified Hotel Industry Analytics (CHIA) certifications, enhanced his resume. In addition, the required internship that was required as part of his degree program in the School of Hospitality Leadership helped prepare him for his career.
In a recent conversation, Brandon noted that his education at ECU lead directly to his current position, helping to prepare him to serve as one of the youngest club managers in the country.
