Dr. Margy Conchar Retires

When Dr. Margy Conchar, associate professor in the Department of Marketing and Supply Chain Management, retired at the end of the Fall 2016 semester, accolades started pouring in from her peers.

Dr. Ken Anselmi, associate professor and former MSCM Department Chair, reflected on Margy’s career by saying she was “a valued colleague and an innovator in the classroom. She was one of the first to use Centra (not only for instructor-student interaction but between student teams and distant clients). She also was an early user of wikis for student collaboration (for client-based marketing projects), and Skype for guest speaker and distant students interaction.

Anselmi added, “Margy is a person of high integrity and research standards. She mentored students, encouraging their research and pursuit of advanced education. She used her marketing expertise to help the community, such as religious organizations and regional businesses.”

Dr. Scott Dellana, assistant dean for Assessment and Accreditation, and former MSCM Department Chair, also had high praise for Dr. Conchar. He said, “Margy came to ECU in 2003 and was tenured in 2009. She served on a variety of committees, including the Department Personnel Committee, Learning Outcomes Assessment, and the Beta Gamma Sigma business honor society. She served as the College of Business faculty liaison for the ECU Quality Enhancement Plan, a university program with a focus on improving student learning.

Dellana continued by saying, Dr. Conchar, “Was dedicated to students and was an excellent teacher. Students have commented that Dr. Conchar was a compassionate educator with a great style of teaching through group case work and discussion that challenged students to engage and grow as professionals. Margy has also been involved with Vidant Medical Center as an advisor on Pastoral Care Services.”

After thirteen years of teaching here at ECU, what will Dr. Conchar do with her newly found free time? She plans to spend time with her family, and she plans to travel.

You can’t beat that! We wish Dr. Conchar the very best of luck!
