You recently joined us for Employer in the Foyer. Why do you recruit at ECU’s College of Business?

We recruit at the ECU College of Business because of the professionalism displayed by the students that we have encountered.  Partnering with ECU College of Business has allowed us to develop effective relationships with the faculty and students.  This partnership has enabled us to understand the passion the students have to work in the area and remain in eastern North Carolina.

What is it about our students that differentiate them from other institutions and universities?

ECU students know the communities that Vidant Health serves throughout eastern North Carolina.  They understand our values and are as passionate as we are about serving our friends and neighbors in the region.  Through our partnerships with the ECU College of Business, the students better understand who we are at Vidant Health and they are excited to find career opportunities within our organization.

What do you look for in a candidate when you review their resume, interview them, and what is the main factor that leads to you hiring them?

Resumes are very important and should reflect the skills and qualifications that are required for the opportunity the person is applying for.  It is important for the student to research the position to understand the responsibilities and clearly articulate his or her interest and qualifications for the role.  If it is a position that captures their attention and excites them, then they have definitely found something they should apply for.  If a student is passionate about what they do, they will enjoy their career choice.  Once a resume captures our attention, a well-prepared interview candidate may help close the deal.  A candidate will need to speak clearly about what he or she has outlined on their resume.  The interview allows them to tell the employer why they are the best person for the position.  Passion and dedication are key attributes that cannot be taught but are sought after in a good applicant.
