The College’s Sharon Justice was recently recognized as a key leader among faculty and staff that impact graduate career readiness at this year’s Faculty Symposium, called The ECU Impact.

Why was she given this honor? She attends all career fairs and requires all of her students to participate in practice interviews. Her students must also prepare a number of career tools such as cover letters, thank you notes, resumes, LinkedIn accounts, negotiating salaries, and even professionally declining a job offer. She offers an open classroom for employers to visit to share job postings, events and information.

“Career Services knows my class is always available for any employer that visits our campus,” said Justice.  “I announce, share and advertise job openings with my students, both present and past, and help employers connect with those they are targeting.  Often employers send me direct messages about current or future job postings and ask that I share or recommend students that are seeking opportunities.”

Justice has worked for more than 25 years in various industry sectors and has focused on strategically growing businesses while equipping leaders and individuals for success. An MBA alumni, she joined College faculty where she developed and currently teaches a leadership course for junior business majors.

Also at the Symposium, an alumni panel shared faculty best practices that impacted their career success.  Josh Smith was the College alumni that sat on the Faculty Symposium panel and shared how the College prepared him for various internships, one of which turned into a full-time job at Red Hat in Raleigh, North Carolina. Also at the Symposium, ECU Career Services, in partnership with Institutional Planning, Assessment and Research, unveiled ECU’s first destination data report and the ECU Impact initiative.

Congratulations to Sharon and all of her efforts.
