SHL's Eta Sigma Delta Welcomes New Members

Twelve new members were recently inducted into School of Hospitality Leadership’s (SHL) Chapter of Eta Sigma Delta (ESD),  the International Hospitality Honor Society. The ceremony began with SHL senior, Madison Thompson, Chapter president welcoming inductees and guests. Dr. Cynthia Deale, Co-advisor for the honor society provided an overview of the organization. Ms. Christa Evans, general manager of the Hope Valley Country Club in Durham, North Carolina was the guest speaker for the ceremony. Ms. Evans is also a member of the SHL’s Advisory Board.

The new junior and senior members welcomed into ESD include Amber Clawson, Madeleine Dashiell, Madelyn Evans, Ariel Malone, Audrey Morris, Anna Newsome, Sydney Parker, Mary Poteat, Katherine Richard, Lauren Stafford, Katie Thompson, and Audrey Williams.

Since 1978, ESD has recognized hospitality and tourism students for outstanding academic achievement, meritorious service and demonstrated professionalism. Today, there are over 90 active ESD chapters throughout the world.

“The growth is a testament to the dedication of both students and professionals in hospitality and tourism to the pursuit of academic, professional and personal excellence,” said Dr. Robert O’Halloran, director of the School.  “It is the intent that this Society will lead hospitality and tourism educators and professionals to the highest levels of professionalism and achievement.”
