IIANC Gives Generous Gift

Independent Insurance Agents of North Carolina (IIANC) CEO Aubie Knight recently delivered a generous gift to support the ECU Risk Management and Insurance (RMI) program. “IIANC is the reason we have an RMI program here at the College of Business because about ten years ago, they funded an endowed professorship to establish and build it,” said RMI Program Director Dr. Brenda Wells.

Since that time, IIANC has helped fund an additional professorship, and their annual gifts allow the program to provide services to students that other programs don’t have.  “For instance, IIANC’s gift funds our Caliper Testing Program.  Caliper is used by many insurance agencies and carriers to assess job applicants in terms of strengths and weaknesses.  Students get to take the test to determine the career path(s) that might suit them best,” notes Wells.

Wells gets a little teary-eyed when she talks about IIANC.  “I wouldn’t have a job if not for the wonderful people at IIANC,” she says.

Wells holds the Robert F. Bird Distinguished Professorship in Risk and Insurance, which is the chair that IIANC initially funded.
