Garrett Hinton shares his internship experience with The P&A Group:

How did you learn about the internship? Where is it?
I received an email from the College of Business’ Career Center who put me in touch with the SBTDC (Small Business Technology Development Center). They had an internship opportunity with the P&A Group out of Greenville.

How did the College of Business prepare you for this successful internship?
The BUSI 3200 class provided interview techniques including what to say, how to dress, how to prepare, and developing good questions to ask after the interview. I completed a practice interview about three weeks before my real interview with the P&A Group. Therefore, I felt very confident when meeting with them.

Describe your experiences at this company?
Overall, I had a great time with the P&A Group. They helped me grow and get a grasp on how things run in a business environment. I got a new project every few days, and it was always something different. Additionally, because they are such a small company, I was able to get involved in numerous functions with different departments.

Describe your experience at the College of Business?
My experiences at the College of Business have been enlightening. I learned a lot. Whether it was concepts, homework, helping me network or tips on looking for jobs, the College of Business prepared me for my internship and job.

What was the moment during your internship where you knew that your ECU COB education had paid off?
Before my internship, I did not have experience in my field. My internship gave me an up-close look at how things actually work. You can go to lectures and take tests all day long, but recruiters are looking for experience, and that is exactly what my internship gave me.

Why would you recommend a business student take advantage of an internship opportunity?
Not only do you get hands-on experience with different aspects of your field of study, but you build connections and learn valuable lessons early. Internships set you up to succeed.

What would be the one thing that people would be surprised to learn about you?
I was the first freshman ever to qualify for the National Collegiate Wrestling Association (NCWA) National Wrestling Tournament from East Carolina University.
