SHL Students in High Demand for Club Management
The private club industry is alive and well and recruiting students. Each year, the School of Hospitality Leadership offers a Club Management course and because our students have been continually significant interested, SHL now has a certified Student Chapter in the Club Management Association of America. Dr. Cynthia Deale is the professor for the Club Management Course (HMGT 3800) and is also the Faculty Advisor for the CMAA chapter. Students participate with the Carolinas professional chapter and some attend the CMAA World Congress. Dr. Deale also invites multiple club managers to the classroom to interact and network with SHL students.
SHL students are required to secure an internship and field experience before graduation. The club industry has embraced them and this summer (2018) ECU & SHL Club Management internships include:

- Amber Clawson— Westchester Club in Rye, NY
- Alysha Gaffney—Oklahoma City Club
- Emily Gillis—Club at Ibis, West Palm Beach, Florida
- Bradley Johns—Ayden Golf & Country Club, Ayden, NC
- Ariel Malone—Sankaty Head Club, Siasconset, Mass.
- Megan Mulvihill- Oklahoma City and Golf Club
- Marian Sanders—Bald Head Island Club, Southport, NC
- Danielle Smith—Cherokee Town & Country Club, Atlanta, Ga.
- Wesley Varona—Carolina Country Club, Raleigh, NC.
Additionally, graduating seniors have also accepted positions with clubs in Florida, Georgia and North Carolina.
