Marianne Moore: SBI Intern

How did you learn about the internship?
The Financial Crimes Unit of the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) has always been a dream job of mine. I visited their booth at the North Carolina State Fair and they provided an agent to contact who works in the Financial Crimes Unit. The agent was so helpful, and answered all of my questions about the State Bureau of Investigation.

How did the College of Business prepare you for this successful  internship?
The College of Business has always stressed the importance of networking and I can now attest this to be true. The college is great at putting students in front of people they need to meet, and getting students out of their comfort zone. They helped prepare me for my interview process.

Describe your experiences at this company.
I had an internship with The State Bureau of Investigation Financial Crimes Unit. This internship was one of the most beneficial and rewarding experiences I have had thus-far. The Financial Crimes Unit is made up of eight Special Agents, so therefore they are all very close to one another. I was taken into their unit as part of their work family, and I felt as though I fit right in. I was able to analyze financial records for criminal investigations, sit in on interviews, and obtain search warrants with agents. This internship was ten-weeks, and it flew by. I learned something new everyday, and everyday was made up of something different and exciting. I would say that after this internship, it still holds true that The State Bureau of Investigation, Financial Crimes Unit is my dream job.

Describe your experience at the College of Business.
I have had an amazing experience in the College of Business. Every professor, advisor and staff member genuinely cares about the success of their students, and is willing to help wherever they can. I couldn’t imagine myself at any other university, because I have felt so welcome and have been helped so much already with my future career.

Why would you recommend a business student take advantage of an  internship opportunity?
I heard from the minute I walked into my first business class that internships were one of the most important things throughout your college career. I agree with this, because I feel as though internships truly prepare you for a future career.

What would be the one thing that people would be surprised to learn  about you?
My family owns a produce company, called Moore’s Produce, where we grow and sell watermelons. I am obsessed with everything watermelon, and my friends jokingly call me the Watermelon Queen (which is an actual thing!).
