SHL Students Link with Chilean Counterparts

The School of Hospitality Leadership’s (SHL) Dimensions of Tourism course that is taught by Dr. Cynthia Deale began its semester by video linking with students in Universidad de Talca, a university partner with ECU. Founded in 1981, Universidad de Talca has made a reputation of itself by being rated one of the best public colleges in Chile.

The Dimensions of Tourism course covers a variety of topics related to tourism that include tourism organizations, culture, diversity, safety and security, sustainable hospitality and tourism, product development, and the future of tourism. As part of the classwork, both SHL and Chilean students will collaborate on leadership projects, as well as compare and contrast the tourist industry of both countries.

The class is part of ECU’s Global Understanding Program, which is made possible through Global Academic Initiatives and Emerging Academic Initiatives.  The university-wide Global Understanding Program courses are taught within a variety of disciplines and aim to provide a more global point of view for the students both here at ECU and its 60 partner universities in 30 countries. Simply stated, students get a chance to learn about other cultures without the expense of studying abroad.

Later this term, the Dimensions of Tourism students will link up with students from Poland and Gambia.
