COB Alumnus and CAPTRUST Co-founder to Deliver Commencement Address
By ECU News Services
Family and friends will gather to celebrate at East Carolina University’s Minges Coliseum on Friday, Dec. 14 as more than 2,200 students receive degrees during the fall commencement ceremony. The event will begin at 9 a.m. with the processional.
ECU College of Business alumnus J. Fielding Miller ’84 will deliver the commencement address.
Miller is co-founder, chairman and CEO of CAPTRUST Financial Advisors, a Raleigh-based independent investment research and fee-based investment advisory firm. He led CAPTRUST from an entrepreneurial start up in 1997 to one of the largest independent investment advisory firms in the country.
“ECU means so much to our family. This university helped give me the foundation I needed to become successful and I have enjoyed staying engaged and helping the next generation of entrepreneurs. It’s an honor to be a part of the ceremony that will send more well-prepared graduates into the world,” said Miller.
As an alumnus, Miller has remained involved with ECU and the College of Business (COB). He and his wife, Kim Grice Miller ‘83, helped establish the Miller School of Entrepreneurship at ECU through a generous contribution. He is an emeritus member of the COB’s Business Advisory Council and offers invaluable opportunities for students to meet and learn from high profile business leaders.
Miller currently serves as a member of ECU’s Board of Trustees and has served on the ECU Foundation Board of Directors. He received the Outstanding Alumni Award in 2013 and the Millers established several Access Scholarships in 2011 for academically gifted students in need of financial support.
ECU will confer degrees to 1,655 bachelor degree candidates and 585 graduate degree candidates, including 38 doctoral candidates.
Many of ECU’s colleges, schools and departments will hold unit recognition ceremonies during commencement weekend. A complete listing can be found at https://commencement.ecu.edu/
