East Carolina University, its College of Business (COB) and the College’s Department of Accounting recently hosted the second Accounting Research Roundtable Gathering on ECU’s campus.

Six doctoral students in accounting, representing four different universities, presented their research ideas in an informal, round table discussion. Accounting students and faculty also participated in the discussion and provided feedback on the presentations.

“We received great feedback from last year’s event. We wanted to hold it again because I think the Ph.D. candidates and our faculty and students all benefited from it,” said Dr. John Reisch, chair of COB’s department of accounting. “We’re continuing to build relationships that could benefit the accounting department down the road.”

The doctoral students, representing Texas Tech University, the University of Central Florida, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL), and Florida Atlantic University, were given 10-15 minutes to present their research ideas. Each presentation was followed by a 45-minute discussion session.

Regarding the event, Stacy Chavez from Texas Tech said she liked the “wide range of feedback we were given.”

Casey Camors, also from Texas Tech, said she had a wonderful time and received “such thoughtful feedback…and found the faculty to be incredible.”

“It was my first time giving a presentation outside UNL…I think I gained a lot of great experience from it,” said Yuzhou Chen from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Reisch was pleased with the responses he received from this year’s event, which continues to be part of accounting’s long-term strategy. He hopes to use the event connections to increase the field of diverse applicants for future faculty positions at ECU.

“Our faculty and alumni provide the department of accounting a strong foundation, which continues to produce graduates that impact organizations nationally,” said Reisch. “Meeting these candidates will hopefully allow us the opportunity to bring in new faculty that will add to our rich tradition.”

ECU’s College of Business is located in Greenville, North Carolina and currently has more than 28,000 alumni throughout the United States. It’s one of the largest colleges of business in North Carolina.
