SHL Alumni Profile: Tim Smith
After graduating from ECU’s School of Hospitality Management in Spring of 2010, I accepted a management position with the Bistro on Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC. My internship with Biltmore Estate in 2009 was integral part of my career path. I worked in many facets of Biltmore Estate including numerous restaurants, banquet & catering operations and the Inn on Biltmore Estate. Biltmore’s philosophies and hospitality established a core value structure for my management style.
In pursuit of higher management opportunities, I joined a luxury golf community, The Cliffs at Walnut Cove. Starting as Food and Beverage Director in 2013 and becoming Club General Manager in my final years. During this time, I completed my Certified Sommelier certification with the Court of Master Sommeliers. I am currently studying towards my Advanced Certification while trying to balance family and work.
In 2017, I assumed the role of Director of Operations for Lonesome Valley. Lonesome Valley is a boutique residential community with James Beard recognized restaurant, Canyon Kitchen. I recently became General Manager overseeing all club & amenity operations, club governance and POA operations.
I highly encourage all graduates to find a mentor within their organizations and be honest with their career goals. It takes a lot of dedication, sacrifice and hard work to succeed, but is truly attainable.
