I can’t even begin to tell you how many successful students come and go in and out of our office each year.  The College of Business is lucky to have such a plethora of excellent learners willing to do everything it takes to be successful upon graduation.  I would like to introduce you to one of those high achievers, Andrew Lee, Marketing major and ECU Honors College student.

As far as experience, Andrew started college with a few years as a server, certified barista, trainer, and election precinct official.  However, what is important is that Andrew understands the importance of internships.  By the end of this summer, he will not have completed one internship, but TWO!  Andrew completed an internship the summer of 2018 at Go Fish Digital, in Raleigh, as a Digital Marketing Intern. He says he enjoyed every day at that internship and, not to toot our own horn, but he says he is very thankful for the College of Business’s Career Center assistance in helping him find that internship.  Since then, he has been diligently applying for summer 2019 internships, and he just landed a job as a Global Partner and Alliances Intern at Red Hat.  If you are unaware, Red Hat, a multinational software company, ranks in Forbes’ Top 100 Digital Companies, Forbes’list of World’s Most Innovative Companies for the fifth time, and is recognized as one of Fortune’s Most Admired Companies.

I’m sure you are thinking, “This Andrew guy must have a high GPA”. Well, you are right.  But what is important is that it is not only his good grades that have led him to success, but that Andrew understands the importance of being active, being a leader, and achieving honors and awards to further himself and his future career.  He looks for opportunities to be a participator rather than a spectator; and, it has paid off!

With those two internships under his belt, Andrew has a good chance of getting an excellent job upon graduation.  But he worked hard for that.  Because of his hard work in high school, he was awarded five scholarships. He is honored to be in the Beta Gamma Sigma International Business Honor Society and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars.  Additionally, he has taken on leadership roles as the Conference Organizer for Phi Beta Lambda Future Business Leaders of America, the Scholarship Chairman of Sigma Nu Fraternity, and the Secretary of the ECU Honors College Recruitment Ambassadors.

Yes, Andrew has a good GPA, but it is his participation in activities, leadership roles, and utilization of resources offered to him that have brought Andrew to where he is today.  The moral of the story, take off your blinders, look for opportunity, participate, work hard, and achieve!  You have it in you.  Start your journey now.
