Scorecard: The Pirate Cup Golf Tournament

Sixty golfers looking to support the College’s Risk Management and Insurance (RMI) department recently participated in the inaugural Pirate Cup Golf Tournament, which was held on May 17, 2019, at the Neuse Golf Club.

Gamma Iota Sigma, COB’s RMI fraternity, hosted the event. Jonathan Nations of Lexington’s Superior Insurance was the tournament organizer.

“It was truly an honor to work with Dr. (Brenda) Wells and her team on the first annual Pirate Cup,” said Nations. “Over the past seven years, I’ve had the privilege to partner with various organizations in hosting similar events. This year I wanted to put something together that would have a positive impact on our industry. I thought working with a university that offered an RMI program would be a great place to start. After my first conversation with Dr. Wells, I knew that East Carolina University and its College of Business was a perfect fit.”

“We are looking forward to seeing the tournament grow in 2020,” added Nations.

The tournament raised more than $8,000 for the RMI program, which will help fund scholarships, student travel and other career-shaping experiences.

“We were thrilled to partner with Superior Insurance to host the tournament,” said Dr. Brenda Wells, director of COB’s RMI department. “Overall, it was a great success, and we want to thank everyone who sponsored it and showed up to support ECU’s Risk Management and Insurance Program.”
